Member trust leads to miracles
This week was another good one in Minden! We have been able to gain a lot of member trust in this last month, and have been seeing some fruits from it.
We had MLC (Mission Leadership Conference) and it was great, but we had to drive 4 hours just to get there and 4 hours back, so it was a long day. ha ha On the way home a guy named Sam Perez texted us and told us to come over. He is the dad of the part member family. We went over and had a really good lesson. For a while now the missionaries have gone over and have taught him in English but he doesn't really understand English too well so we were able to teach him the restoration in Spanish and he loved it and knew it was true. It was really cool! He has a very hectic work schedule so it is harder to meet with him, but we are excited to start working with him.
Also this week we had a crazy experience. We were knocking doors and all of the sudden 4 big dogs came out and surrounded us haha It was insane. They started nipping at our heels. It was super scary. The lady at the door hurried and let us in and apologized, but we were pretty scared. It felt like we were the prey and hey were hunting us down. One had blood all over his face. It was intense. After the lesson I ended up running to the car and pulling up to the house so my companion could get out safely. haha.
This week we had interviews with president and I asked him if I could extend, and he said yes. I will be going home one month later so my release date is now Sept 18th. I'm excited about that! Then the mission president came out to Louisiana and went teaching with us. We had some really good lessons with him. We taught Lee and Amanda and it was amazing. They have committed to stop smoking. It was a powerful lesson. We gave them priesthood blessings and it was super cool! They are doing great now and have not smoked since.
It was a great this week. We had a powerful moment with Amanda. She told us that she was going to bring two packs of cigarettes so that she could destroy them with us. We took a video of it. It was amazing.
This week at church Heather bore her testimony to everyone about the Book of Mormon. It was so cool. We were also able to get in contact with a few part-member families that hopefully we will be able to to get working with in the next couple of weeks.
Basically this week was full of miracles. Here are some pictures, including the abandoned house of the week. ha ha
