I got chicks!
WOW WHAT A CRAZY WEEK! This week has been full of adventurers and fun and spiritual experiences. I love serving a mission for the Lord. It has been the greatest blessing in my life and some of the funnest times in my life, but also some of the most spiritual experiences I have ever had. I have grown in so many different ways from being out here.
Some of the coolest and craziest things I have done on my mission happened this week. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a foreign mission here in Oklahoma. This week I had the opportunity to go and do some service for one of our members who is a chicken farmer. I didn't really know what to expect BUT WOW!!! It was the craziest and smelliest thing I have ever done. We got in these football-field sized chicken houses where thousands of baby chicks are running around in these crates and we had to hurry and dump them out--80 thousand of them, and I'm not over exaggerating at all. I can never look at Peeps the same way again. It's so sad.
This week started off in an area called Pickens that missionaries have not visited in a long, long time. It was an hour and 20 min away, haha and we drove up with brother Fackrell who is a complete legend! He is 82 and loves coming out with us, and in case you don't remember, he is the one that drove us off the freeway from Dallas during an ice storm a few months ago. ha ha It was a cool day trip and we had a lot of success out there. It was a blast!
Later in the week we went over to Johnny and Debra's and had a great lesson on temples and eternal marriage. They are so ready! As they were walking us out after the lesson, Johnny said the coolest thing. He said I truly do know that The Book of Mormon is true, and I know that this is another testament to the Bible. He has become so humble and his faith has grown so much since I first met him. Debra has been reading like a champ. She started the Book of Mormon and is already on chapter 11, even though I only told her to read one chapter. Johnny read 25 chapters in one day!!!!!! It was so sweet. He is learning so much. It is really cool, honestly.
We got invited to go to a Marshallese wedding and it was super cool. It was literally all Marshallese people, except me and my companion, and we didn't hear a single bit of English. I felt like I was in the Marshall Islands. Tons of kids came over and started flipping bottles and hanging out with us. They got a hold of my iPad and started looking at my photos, and then someone came and got us and put us in the seat of honor. ha ha Everyone knows the Elders somehow. It was awesome.
Finally general conference came, which is literally Christmas out here for missionaries. General Conference and Easter on the same day. It cannot get better than that. The Saturday sessions were soooo good. It's crazy how all the talks go hand in hand with each other.
Then the Sunday session came around, or another day of Christmas, and me and Elder Fox were going around trying to get everyone to come listen to it at the church, and GUESS WHAT!! Johnny came, AND A FAMILY WE HAVE BEEN TEACHING CAME TOO. They have 4 kids and they are so cool. They are the family that we met when I heard a basketball dribbling and I was like, "where is that coming from?" It's amazing how you can use stuff that you love to do to connect with people.
Apparently they had started getting ready at 8:00 a.m., but didn't show up until the second hour of the morning session. At one point the mom was just going to give up and not come. It is crazy how hard Satan tries to stop people from progressing or from hearing the words of God! She was so happy they made it and she loved conference and was really interested!
The coolest part was that Jonah got baptized in between sessions and the Bakers came to that and thought it was super cool. The spirit was so strong at the baptism. I love seeing Jonah progress so much since the first lesson we taught him. When we walked the Bakers out after the baptism, the mom said, "Be expecting us next week. We look forward to it!'
Later that night we went to the Wilsons to see how they liked conference. Johnny really liked it. He surprised me and Elder Fox with the coolest gift I have ever received. It was the scripture of john 16:17 in a wooden frame he built.
GO AND SERVE A MISSION IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT IT. DON'T BE AFRAID TO PRAY ABOUT IT.
LOVE Y'ALL. I'm fixin to leave right quick HAHA That's the type of English they speak here in Oklahoma hah It's so awesome,
