Wild Boars and fisheyes and DOG! Oh my!

What a CRAZY week here in Idabel. I love this place. I'm becoming countryfied and Marshallese.

This week we went down to Dallas for a trainee graduation. My companion, Elder Fox killed it. Super proud of him. The crazy part is that we let Brother Fackrell drive us down to Dallas again. If you don't remember who that is, he was the man that drove off the freeway on the first day of training. Well, this time everything was perfect on the way down.  Then on the way back everything was still going smoothly so I decided I felt comfortable enough to pull out my scriptures and start reading.  While I was reading I hear a WOAH! and so I look up. Brother Fackrell is on the left side of the road and a HUGE diesel is heading towards us. It was so scary. He whipped back into the right lane, almost clipping the back of a diesel in front of us. But we are alive and well. Don't worry mom, ha ha

Later in the week we planned a dinner with a less active member. We told her we got a ton of catfish that we could bring over so we let it defrost in the car. She ended up canceling on us and we had all of this catfish in the car hahaha We took it out, but the next day we opened the doors and BAM!!! the thickest smell of cat fish drills us right in the face. We have been dealing with that wretched smell all week. ha ha

This week we have been working hard to get the less actives to church and to get to know them. It was awesome. A lot of the less actives here are Marshallese and so the rule is when you enter a Marshallese home they always feed you or give you something. We were fed a lot of chicken and rice and even a huge fish head.  I decided to try the eyeball and it was surprisingly good. I don't know if it is because the mission has made my taste buds whack or what. ha ha.

We met some really awesome people this week, and we got a lot of Marshallese music. Our effort and friendship paid off. The families that we were working with came to church and so that was great. We will keep helping them regain their faith again. They are the best.

Me and my comp were nominated as volunteers of the month by our favorite librarians. ha ha We had our pics taken and our photo is on the TV in the library. ha ha They gave us these cool cups. It was awesome.

Johnny came to church and liked it and during sacrament I felt prompted to say, "Do you feel ready?" and he said "No." After sacrament we had a great conversation and he is going to continue to read and pray for an answer.

This week we were also able to go to a few baseball games to support some of the investigators we are teaching and to really show them that we love and care about them! One of the kid's who was playing got a hit and came up to us and was sooo happy. He said, "I can't believe I hit that. I havent hit a ball in a long time. You guys are my lucky charms." ha ha It was so cute!

The craziest thing happened. During church, Brother bundy comes up to us and says, "I have some wild Boar that we caught in my trap could you help me find people to give all the meat to?" So after church we went around trying to find people who would want wild boar. Then Brother Bundy asked me and Elder Fox to come with him to kill the wild Boar. Me and Elder Fox just looked at each other and looked back at brother bundy and said, YES! We jumped in his truck and as we were heading down we picked up Brother Pero, who was the one who brought all the meat to the BBQ last week.  We started talking about the ribs he brought and we asked him what kind of meat they were. He says, "DOG."  We froze for a few seconds and then looked around and kinda awkwardly laughed. We were like, 'ha ha, good one. yeah, right," but he had a really serious look on his face and said,  "yes that was dog!!!" We were so shocked, It was actually really good, but I couldn't comprehend that I had eaten dog! I OWN A DOG. I CAN'T EAT ONE. I can never look at a dog the same again.

Back to the story. So we get to Brother Bundy's and there are 13 wild boar in his trap growling at us and charging the cages. They are really mean animals.  It was so crazy. He shot them, but it took a lot of bullets to finally kill them.  Then he skinned them and cleaned them. it took 5 hours to do it all!! It was nuts. We ended up getting a whole bag full of wild hog and so I'm pumped to try it!

Even crazier. While we were cleaning these hogs, this 7-year old kid was hanging around with a pocket knife. My first thought was, that's kinda strange, but I didn't think too hard about it until he tried to stab me multiple times!!!!! ha ha It was so scary.  The kid was just laughing and I had to blocked the knife with my scriptures a few times (Scripture power) ha ha I was terrified. A lot of crazy experiences this week, but it was a great week.

Something I want to share with ya'll this week is that you are all children of God and he loves you. No matter what wrong choices we make or how far the path we may be, there is always an opportunity to turn around and go back towards our Heavenly Father because of Jesus Christ, his son. He is our path.  He is our light. His love is pure. His way is straight. He is the God of mercy. Through Christ we can be forgiven of our sins and we can be strengthened in our trials and tribulations!

YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD. Never lose your identity! please listen to the talk in general conference. "I Am A Child of God?" by Brian K. Taylor. It's super good. Love you guys. Stay safe.
Transfers are next week so we will see what happens!
